Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo as a Pet

The Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo is a sought after pet worldwide but they are one of the most difficult companion birds to meet the needs of, so should only be kept by very experienced aviculturists who have adequate facilities such as very large outdoor aviaries (at least 10 metres in length and minimum 2.5 metres high). These birds should never be kept in small cages.

It is illegal and unethical to take and keep birds from the wild. Due to the difficulty in captive breeding this species, they are expensive to purchase, particularly outside Australia.

Yellowtailedblackcockatoo.com does not advocate the keeping of this species in captivity, except by professional wildlife and conservation organizations and zoos.
